What we believe
Our aim is to create an environment that fosters the ongoing learning and growth of all our students and staff, in an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement and with an absence of pressure to perform. Within this setting, we aim to provide the best possible training in homœopathy, flower essences and related holistic topics. We also encourage the widespread use of homœopathy by encouraging students to prescribe responsibly under supervision as soon as they feel ready.
What is different about the Lakeland College?
At The Lakeland College, as tutors we create a learning experience that is based on our own continual learning and growth. We have created a unique environment at the college - 'empowering' is a word that students often use in their feedback to us. Below are some of the key differences that make our training course unique.
Balance 'inner' learning with 'outer' learning
We believe that the process of becoming a good healer is as much about an inner journey as it is about learning information and skills. So as well as teaching the necessary content we place emphasis on personal experience, building confidence and developing self-awareness.
Non-traumatic self-assessment
We believe that learning can be a pleasurable and empowering experience without placing an unnecessary academic burden on our students. We do not set exams on our courses, but instead we encourage students to develop in their own style and at their own pace by means of personalised learning journals and self-assessment.
Good staff-staff and staff-student relations
We believe that people both work and learn best in an environment where the interpersonal relationships are good. To this end we work hard at creating a supportive environment between ourselves as tutors, and in our interactions with students. We also encourage our students to work in a supportive and co-operative, rather than competitive atmosphere.
Open feedback channels
We firmly believe in listening to our students, and getting regular feedback from them. And we are willing to respond positively to the feedback we get.
Good support system
There is always a college 'Guardian' available to support students and our student co-ordinator is a point of contact outside of college. We have an extensive network of regional tutors who support our students with their casework and their development as practitioners. Following graduation, Lakeland Homeopaths continue to network with one another and support current students.
Open-minded, non-dogmatic approach
Our tutors have a wide range of expertise and our curriculum is broad and flexible, allowing our students to learn the essentials whilst also remaining free to develop their own interests and skills. Our curriculum and learning development is ongoing and dynamic, embracing the growth of our team and the changing world we live in.
Energetic framework
Homœopathy and flower essences are energy medicines. In order to use them to their fullest potential, we believe it is essential that our students have a practical understanding or the energy system and how it functions, both in health and disease. Students have the opportunity to work with energy in exciting, experiential ways like sensing auras, energy flow around the body and through the chakras.
Practitioner skills
We believe that healing is as much about the relationship between a practitioner and patient as it is about any remedies we might prescribe. We spend considerable time developing interpersonal skills and other useful practitioner skills.
Learning through experience
We believe people learn best through hands-on personal experience. Therefore we encourage and support our students to start practising what they have learned as soon as they individually feel ready.
Self-responsibility
We encourage our students to take charge of their own learning process. In this way their confidence builds and they learn through their own experience how to empower their clients to take charge of their own health.
There are many colleges of homœopathy and complementary medicine and we encourage all of our students to explore the options and choose a college that meets their needs.
